Apo Whang Od Why is Culture important in our life? Culture is the foundation of traditions and practices in our life. It details our experience, upbringing in life and our Identity as a member of the community. Whereas being a member of a community, we are a part of the bigger society. The large and diverse society of different cultures and practices. And in the village of Buscalan in the Kalinga Province, Philippines lies an example of a great culture that is being passed down for generations. The master tattooist Apo Whang Od Oggay, a living treasure of Philippine culture and the Philippines’ oldest tattoo artist continues to pass on and practice the tradition. In this essay, I want to express my reflection on the significance of continuing and passing down cultures. Culture can define the identity of an individual; it is a complex whole that encompasses beliefs, practices, values, attitudes, laws, norms, symbols, knowledge, and everything that a person learns and shares
